Ramadan, the 9th month of Islamic calendar is the holy month during which staunch Muslims observe Roza (fast), one of the five tenets of Islam. This is believed to be the month that the holy Koran was first revealed by God to Prophet Muhammad. During Ramadan, fasting is observed between sunrise and sunset. The purpose of fasting is to practice self-discipline, patience, spirituality and charity. This year Ramzan is to be observed till 7 August 2013, followed by Eid-al-Fitr on 8 August. The pre-dawn meal is called Suhur and the post-sunset meal Iftar to break the day's fast. K.R.Market and OPH Road near Commercial Street in Shivaji Nagar come alive, especially during evenings.
