Lal Bagh hosted its traditional I-Day Flower Show from 7th to 15th August 2013. Organised by the Department of Horticulture and Mysore Horticultural Society, the 198th show was inaugurated by honourable Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Main attraction this season in the Glass House was the 35 ft long Floral Boat House with more than 2 lakh roses of different colours. And then there were these 2 Mega Hand replicas, one holding germinating seeds and the other fruits, to symbolize growth and productivity. Since they hardly looked like hands, it was entertaining to see visitors making wild guesses as to what they could be: perhaps a penguin or a cobra? Ikebana, Indian floral art, vegetable carving and bonsai were exhibited. The collection of roses, orchids and other blooms were a visual treat. Apart from the usual stalls selling gardening tools, jute and wooden products, manure, fertilizers, seeds etc. a large collection of bottled grape wine prepared by the Karnataka Wine Board was on display.
