Dasara falls between 29 Sep - 08 Oct this year. Tradition was to celebrate each of the 4 seasonal transitions for 9 nights ( Navratri) and 10 days. Hence Navratri occurs 4 times in a year according to Hindu calendars, out of which Shardiya Navratri (Sep/Oct) is the most popular. Dussehra also symbolizes the triumph of good over the evil. Durga Puja in Bengal celebrates the victory of Goddess Durga over Mahishasura. Central India celebrates Rama's annihilation of Ravana by burning effigies. Goddess Chamundi Devi is taken in the royal processions of Mysuru. Banashankari Temple is located on Kanakapura Road. It is now under the administration of the Muzrai of the Government of Karnataka. The temple was built by a devotee Basappa Shetty in 1915. An idol is said to have been brought from another ancient Banashankari Temple in Badami. This temple is unique for Rahukala Puja and there is a legend associated with this. 4 festivals are celebrated by this temple: Navaratri, Rathotsava, Banashankari Janmashtami and the Temple anniversary.
