Know your Bengaluru

Freedom ParkFreedom Park in Bangalore is a unique park which once served as a colonial prison that confined many freedom fighters. It has also accommodated political leaders during the emergency period. The erstwhile Bangalore Central Jail in Seshadri Road, was built in 1866 by the British. In the year 2000, when prisoners outnumbered its capacity, the prison was moved to Parappana Agrahara. The old prison was renovated by BBMP and opened to public as the Freedom Park. L K Advani, who was a former inmate in 1977, inaugurated the park in Feb 2009. 5 acres of the park have been allotted for democratic protests and rallies. With its gardens and fountains, this could possibly be the most beautiful prison in the world today, standing as a tribute to our freedom fighters.   Read more about Freedom Park...
